This Sludgefist boss guide will show you the Sludgefist abilities that you'll see in the Normal, Heroic and LFR versions of the Sludgefist fight. Mythic Sludgefist has additional mechanics not shown in this Normal and Heroic Sludgefist guide. Footage of Sludgefist for this boss guide is from PTR raid testing and some mechanics may look different or change when the Castle Nathria raid releases on live servers starting December 8th.
The key to Sludgefist in Phase One is doing good damage, honestly. The rest of the mechanics are simple and easy enough to execute, so it's just a matter of passing the DPS check. You need to use a pillar to soak each Hateful Gaze, and you have a limited number of pillars so that's the main sticking point.
Both tanks on Sludgefist will want to stack with each other to take the damage from his Giant Fists. Melee want to avoid wandering too close. Tank him away from pillars to avoid nuking them with his Destructive Stomp, and melee want to run out of that.
Ranged should chill on the sides of the room until needed to bait Rubble onto the edges. Players linked by Chain Link need to stay close to each other to avoid breaking the chain. The player targeted by Hateful Gaze at 100 energy needs to put a pillar in between themselves and Sludgefist, baiting him into the pillar with his charge. Burn the boss afterwards, you have twelve seconds of increased damage. At 20% health, Sludgefist enrages so save defensives for that and finish the fight.
On Heroic, Sludgefist gains the Chain Slam soak mechanic. A handful of players should help soak, although I wouldn't if you're chained to someone unless you both decide to go.
