Celebrating 35 years since the release of the original Super Mario Bros. for the NES, we got a Nintendo Direct focused on Super Mario. First they showed Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros., which is Super Mario Bros. on the Game & Watch systems, and the first time since about 29 years ago they release a new Game & Watch system.
Next was a Nintendo Switch port of the Wii U game Super Mario 3D World, it is known as Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, which is an updated version of the Wii U game. Then Super Mario Bros. 35 was announced, it is Super Mario Bros. where 35 players compete against each other, so it's like Tetris 99, but for Super Mario Bros., and it requires Nintendo Switch Online.
Next is Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, which comes with physical kart products of Mario and Luigi, they have a camera attached to the kart, and it makes use of augmented reality.
The big announcement was Super Mario 3D All-Stars, which will have Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy all in one game, and it is based on the SNES game Super Mario All-Stars, which is now available on Super Nintendo Entertainment System - Nintendo Switch Online, and in this video, I will be playing Super Mario All-Stars.
They also announced some other events, like a Super Mario Splatfest for Splatoon 2, a special tour in Mario Kart Tour which adds SNES versions of Mario and Donkey Kong Jr. as playable characters, a Super Mario Bros. themed Tourney in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Super Mario-themed furniture in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and many others.
That's the direct out of the way, now to go over Super Mario All-Stars, this game is called Super Mario Collection in Japan, and it released in 1993 for the SNES, with updated versions of Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, Super Mario Bros. 2, and Super Mario Bros. 3. This was the first time where Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels was available outside of Japan, because it was originally known as Super Mario Bros. 2 in Japan.
This game was re-released on the Wii in 2010 as Super Mario All-Stars Limited Edition, which was released around the 25th anniversary of Super Mario Bros., so to see Nintendo's mascot go through many years of games, and there have been a lot of spin-offs and main series games, the Super Mario series has had a large history of games.
