This is a playthrough using Dan Hibiki in the Arcade MVS version of SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos. Read on below for more information...

Dan is one of the six possible mid-bosses in the game. He is a hidden playable character in both the Neo-Geo MVS and AES versions of it.

===== HOW TO SELECT DAN =====

On the character select screen, press and hold [START] to activate the random/roulette cursor. Now input the following:

Down, Left x 7. Now press any attack button with [START] still held down, and Dan will be selected.

===== ABOUT DAN =====

Dan is a play on SNK's Ryo and Robert from Art Of Fighting. Capcom saw Ryo as a rip-off of Ken and Ryu, so they decided to retaliate by "parodying" the two SNK characters by creating Dan, who was introduced in Street Fighter Alpha 1. Dan is designed to be somewhat of a joke character who is notably weaker than the other characters in the games he has appeared in.

In SvC Chaos, despite being another head-swap of Ryu/Ken, he is a more individual by having many unique frames of animation for himself, such as his neutral stance. Gameplay-wise, in this game he has Ryo's Gadou Shoukou Ken special move that travels a short distance. Other typical Dan traits include the delayed jumping Fierce/Roundhouse, the fireballs that go nowhere and the super dragon punch that goes nowhere.

===== ADDITIONAL INFORMATION / TRIVIA =====

---- He is one of the few characters in the game to have two proper endings (one for beating Athena and one for beating Red Arremer).

---- As mentioned earlier, he gains Ryo's Gadou Shoukou Ken special move for SvC Chaos.

---- In his Taunt super move, he performs some poses from two SNK characters, Yuri Sakazaki and Shingo Yabuki.

---- Dan's father (Go Hibiki) resembles Mr.Karate, so much that he mistakes the latter as his father in his pre-fight dialogues with the two Mr.Karates.

---- As with almost all of his appearances as a playable character, he occasionally flashes white when performing his Dragon Punch to signal invincibility.

---- During the release of SSF2T and in retaliation for the AOF1 Ryo rip-off, one of Capcom's artists drew a picture of Sagat holding the head of his defeated opponent. This opponent had an orange karate uniform, a black t-shirt underneath, geta sandals, and dark hair in a ponytail. This character is the parody of Ryo and Robert, and went onto to become Dan Hibiki in SFA1.

---- He appears in one of Sagat's pre-fight intros in the Street Fighter Alpha games as the orange karate uniform version of him as depicted above.

===== ABOUT SVC CHAOS =====

SNK vs. Capcom: SVC Chaos is basically SNK's mainstream attempt at the crossover fighting game with Capcom. It was not as popular as Capcom's two CvS games, but SvC did develop quite a significant fanbase among certain groups.

The gameplay is your typical SNK system, it is somewhat similar to KOF and is quite technical. Combos are generally hard to pull off because it requires precision and also because there generally tends to be "less possibilities" when compared to a SFA or CvS game.

Graphics-wise, I think SNK did a very job at depicting the Capcom characters in the "SNK" style, they are very detailed sprites with impressive animation... M.Bison's chipmunk face and his waving hand in his neutral stance will always be a classic. Dare I say that I would have wanted to see more Capcom characters in this SNK style.

One of the best things about this game is definitely the pre-fight character dialogue exchanges. Every character has a unique dialogue exchange with every character... they really do give you an insight into each character's personality and their relationships with each other. If you like this kind of thing, then SvC is for you.
