Take our advice and make an afternoon out of baking these pretzels topped with almost anything you can find in your kitchen!

Soft Pretzels

¾ cup warm Water
1½ tsp Sugar
1 tsp salt
½ packet dry Yeast (1¼ tsp)
2¼ cups Flour
1/2 stick Butter, melted
Oil
1/3 cup Baking Soda
1 Egg Yolk, beaten
Coarse Salt for finishing

Mix the water, sugar, and salt together and sprinkle the yeast across the top. Let it stand for 5 minutes. Then add the flour and butter and mix until the dough is smooth and well blended. Form into a ball and place into an oiled dish. Cover and let rise for an hour.
In a medium pot or skillet, combine the baking soda with 5 cups of water and bring to a boil. Meanwhile, divide the dough into 4 pieces and roll each piece out into a long rope shape. Form the dough rope into a pretzel shape and boil each one for 30 seconds in the pot. Remove from the pot and place onto an oiled baking sheet or parchment paper and brush with egg yolk. Sprinkle with course salt and bake at 425º for 12 minutes or until golden. Let cool for several minutes before serving.
