Sonic Blast Man (SNES) Playthrough - NintendoComplete
A playthrough of Taito's 1993 beat 'em up for the Super Nintendo, Sonic Blast Man.
Played through on the default difficulty level.
This 2.5D beat 'em up doesn't seem to get too much attention, and I'm not really sure why. It's super flashy and gaudy (making it a lot of fun to look at), there is quite a good array of moves available that are easy to pull off once you've learned them, and the challenge is enough to feel like you're being pushed without being irritated every two seconds.
It also features from the arcade game (yes, the punching "simulation" where you actually had to punch the arcade cabinet) several events as bonus games for points and lives. Save a run away pram from certain doom by... punching an the grill of an articulated lorry, how else?! Or, when Sonic Blast Man is informed that "a town is being devastated", he's instructed to "demolish the fortress with three forceful blows." I'm not sure at all how those two things are even related to each other (did no one think to stop the construction of said fortress before it devastates the town?), but it's awesome. Others include punching a giant mutant crab to death, saving women from thugs, and preventing a meteor from colliding with Earth. Just like the Engrish that introduces each of the games and main stages, this game is rife with cheese-ball humor.
Oh, and because you only get the opportunity to play four of the five selectable hit games over the course of the standard game, I included the final one after the ending (1:04:25).
