Today I wanted to talk about some of the older Sonic collections that had been released. And why I didn't really play them. The star of the show was Gems, for the GameCube. A collection of three at the time fairly niche Sonic games - though there had been plans for at least one other that would have been amazing but sadly never happened - as well as a place for Sega to release the second half of the Game Gear games. And that "second half" was the problem for me. On GameCube, the first half was on Sonic Adventure DX. But I had the Dreamcast version, so I didn't bother with the GameCube version. And I didn't really want to play the latter half without seeing the earlier stuff first. Sonic Adventure DX on PC didn't have the games, but Sonic Mega Collection Plus for Playstation 2 and Xbox did. However, I had the original Sonic Mega Collection for GameCube, which was lacking. Sigh. I did recently buy the Sonic Mega Collection Plus for the games, but have since found out that the PC/Steam version of Sonic Adventure DX does have the files for the GameGear games, they just aren't accessible in the data. In fact, it doesn't just have the first six, it has all twelve, and two Japanese releases. Fourteen ROMs available, if you have the program to unpackage them, which I did. With that, I'm able to play the games the way I want to play them, and will give one a shot tomorrow.

I filled a bit of extra time by trying out a Genesis game here that I didn't have elsewhere. The Ooze. It's only in Sonic Mega Collection Plus, not in any of the later collections I have, so I gave it a little try. It's an interesting game, but not one I plan on going back to. Yea, today was a bit of a filler day, but there was some background here that I'd wanted to get out to set up for the coming games. -- Watch live at https://www.twitch.tv/the_nametag
