Planet Wisp is the final stage in the Modern Era as well as the final main level in this game. This level originated from the Wii version of Sonic Colours, which at the time of Generations' Release, would be a very recent Sonic Game. While Sonic Colours was a Boost Game, that game encourages you to explore the levels to get higher scores, rather than blitzing through the levels to get a faster time, since they Simplified the Boost Formula for Colours since it was a designed as a Wii exclusive and to also appeal to Kids and Mario Fans. So, when they brought back Planet Wisp for Generations, they had to design the Modern Act to accommodate for Generations' more Unrestricted Boost Formula, along with bringing the Wisp mechanics back in this game. Unfortunately, Planet Wisp is easily the Worst Stage in this game. This level isn't bad, but it's ok at best and tedious at worst.

Both Acts of Planet Wisp take way to long to complete as they can take around 5-6 minutes to beat. Now, I'm not against Sonic Levels being long, because I like Sonic games like 3&K, Heroes, HD Unleashed, & Shadow Generations, because I don't mind them there since those games are consistent with having long levels and/or the level's length are completely justified with the level design to keep you occupied. But here in this game, where the previous levels were consistently short, this is the only one that is long and I don't think the level's length isn't justified.

Act 1's beginning is pretty good, with you doing typical the Classic Sonic things you did throughout the game in the pretty forests of Planet Wisp and teaching you how to use the Spike Wisp. But then, once you get into the factory, it goes downhill from there, as main gimmick for the Spike Wisp is by going Gears and Spin-Dashing them, and the problem is that you are doing this for most of the level, and it is kind of boring in my opinion. What's not helping the level is that the Spike Wisp controls worse than it did in Colours.

Act 2 is a little better than Act 1, but it's still not a level I would replay much. Again, the opening is great. There is a decent amount of paths to pick, that can help you get a lower time. But again, the level goes downhill after getting in the factory. The level is pretty much 2D from then, which isn't my biggest problem with this stage, since I don't mind the 2D segments in the Boost games. (I mean, I'm one of the Sonic Colors defenders, since Colours is one of my favorite Sonic Games and that game has a lot of 2D segments) The biggest problem I have with this level is that the level constantly has you using the Rocket Wisp to break down a generator, though while you can find shortcuts using it, it gets bit having to use it so much. That and the how you use minecarts a lot, which gets a little boring too.

Again, this stage isn't bad, but it's definitely the worst stage in the game. I won't hate replaying this stage, because I do still have some enjoyment with this stage, but I would play every other stage in this game over this one.
