Ft. Miles Prower, Sonic T. Hedgehog, and The Tornado

Again.

First of all:
DISCLAIMER: I am well aware strictly speaking Mina was never Miles’s girlfriend… she was his wife, in a what-if 25 years into the future scenario.

SECOND DISCLAIMER: I might or might have not specified the genre of a song correctly. I’m not that much into music all things considered.

I’m back! More or less. Back when Sonic Mania released on August 2017, I was asked if I was planning on doing a run of the game. I even bought a capture device to do that. I refuse to buy Sonic Mania on PC. Point is I was going to do this back then… then Maria happened.

For those of you who don’t know, I’m Puerto Rican and live in the island. In late September we got hit by a hurricane that decimated the power grid (among other things). While me and my family got through it relatively unscathed (no property damage besides a window that was shoddy to begin with), we still were without power for months. I got power back early December, while my parents around early/mid-January. I got lucky and manage to jump head first into an impromptu business trip for a month. Literally my boss walks into our temporary office, says there are 7 spaces open in an airplane leaving in like an hour, who’s in? I was in that office because by chance I stumbled into a coworker at the mall while I was charging my stuff and he was leaving work, stopping to buy some food because we have no power to cook at home. It was a pretty hectic afternoon.

So Sonic Mania...

OH GOD I LOVE THIS GAME

I make fun of it because I care. This game gets so many things rights. Sonic’s movement, the level design, the right amount of Easter Eggs, interesting level and boss ideas, Knuckles & Knuckles, and the list goes on. I’m a pretty big fan of many of the classic platformers. Mario, Sonic, Crash, Spyro, Mega Man, Kirby, Donkey Kong. Replaying Sonic Mania just brings forth all of these memories about Sonic, not only the games but also the supplemental material like the comics and cartoons.

That said, Green Hill… ugh, Green Hill. I don’t dislike it, but I’m tired of it. GHZ is a symptom of Sega’s bad habits. Particularly their inability to understand what made Sonic good and not being able to look forward. Every time we revisit Green Hill, a flicky dies. That said, Whitehead makes an admirable job remastering the stage to make it feel fresh. Honestly, Christian Whitehead has quickly become one of my favorite developers and his involvement in Freedom Planet 2 is one of the things I’m more hyped about that game.

I’ll stop the description here. I have many stages to go. I need something to write in those descriptions.
