Sonic Map Development - Space Colony Ark Day 002- Implementing Flowmaps for Earths Oceans and Clouds
This is just the initial background art setup for what will eventually be the Space Colony Ark film set for my rendition of Shadow's back story. Its been done a million times before in 2D and 3D then Paramount will of course do their own this december. I dont care, doing my own for learning and for the satisfaction of making a more modern generation realtime/game graphics art style with some cyberpunk flare to it. Im a character artist with some chops in environment but for these shorts I have absolutely no time to make my own sets anymore so most of this process will just be grabbing assets online and kit bashing mess together.
Big thanks to @UnrealSensei for a thorough explanation of how to basically create your own planetary assets from freely available online resources and not have to fold and grab something off asset store/FAB.
Shout out to @BenCloward for his solid explanation of how to author original hand painted flow normal maps and an easy to customize material function to get it work. Unfortunately the results were not as expected but the scale of the asset I am working with is planet sized, round and too large to use world space units so I doubt any default inputs would produce noticably different flows so I ended up bootlegging some sense of motion just with a combination of wave forms timing the flows instead lol. Oh well not perfect but I dont have time, must move on.
