vs. Egg Beetle
Pretty early on in the story, Sonic meets up with his long-time nemesis, Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik. (You can't have it any other way.) Eggman is pestering some of the villagers in Mazuri about where the Gaia Gate could be, a place to restore a Chaos Emerald so that he could catch Sonic. Sonic shows up in the village and blasts Eggman away. Eggman is forced to find the Gaia Gate on his own and runs into Sonic yet again--but this time, Eggman has brought reinforcements: A rather large vehicle called the Egg Beetle, which carries a surprisingly varied amount of weaponry in it and can keep up with Sonic himself.
You will be seeing the Wii version first, then the 360 version second. You can see that, unlike most of the other things in this game, the duels are actually pretty similar. Sonic runs along a pre-set path pursuing the Egg Beetle, using the Sonic Boost to ram into the machine. At times, the chase will switch to 2-D, the path straightening out, and the Egg Beetle will shift its attacks accordingly. The banter between Sonic and Eggman, of course, is identical, though Eggman in the Wii/PS2 version seems to be a lot quieter.
The one thing that's different, aside form the different moves Sonic has, is the Egg Beetle's attacks. I can't say one is tougher than the other, to be honest. The Wii/PS2 version will have Eggman tossing dice (NOT Weighted Companion Cubes), which roll back and forth and could get in Sonic's way unexpectedly; and missiles that follow the path and shoot at Sonic. The 360/PS3 version throws spiked mines in the way instead of rolling dice, which don't move but come at Sonic from a closer distance, making up for their being stationary by giving less time to dodge them. Attacks both versions have in common is ramming the presumably red-hot pincers at Sonic, which can be hard to dodge as they're so big; and missiles, I believe, though you only get to see the dice in this video.
