I compare the two big retro sound cards I built over the last year: The AdLib clone and the MUS1099, a C/MS GameBlaster clone.

The original sound cards stem from the same year, 1987, and were among the first commercially available sound cards for IBM PCs and compatibles. The AdLib was a success, until the advent of the SoundBlaster card, whereas the GameBlaster, being the predecessor of the SoundBlaster, was not quite so successful.

What are the features of the two cards, and how do they sound? I compare them in four games of that era:

* Indiana Jones 3
* Monkey Island 1
* Loom
* Colonel's Bequest

Have a listen and decide for yourself: Which card is better?
