I have covered this before, hidden away in map making part 2, but it's worth a tutorial on its own.
Very short and simple but I show you how to add static and physics objects in the Source SDK, using...

If you want the same sort of physics seen in proper maps such as de_dust2, make the barrels prop_physics_multiplayer . Apparently it doesn't slow down your computer as much but it's annoying and you can get stuck on them, so I avoid them.
