"Spectrum Blast" (Demon) by Woom & Kyhros | Geometry Dash 2.11
Design levels have changed a lot over the years. At first, at a time without much less editor tools, they looked much like the main levels by RobTop. Eventually, they started evolving more thanks to creators like Darnoc, who used colors and decoration really well. Now, most design levels lean heavily on glow. This is obviously a very short summary, but the reason I'm bringing it up is because this level feels like a bit of a throwback now, and in a good way.
It's not obvious in the first part, but you can still see interesting color combinations and nice block designs. I'm not a huge fan of the green and red combination that pulses here and there. However, it's short enough for it to not be too bad. 0:14 is where the throwback starts, and it's almost entirely thanks to player colors. Before 1.9, it was the norm to have player colors in levels because of the lack of more than 1 color channel. Even after, creators like Darnoc, Codex, and Usermatt18 used them well, and the latter 2 were listed as inspirations in this level's description. Unfortunately, they're pretty much phased out now, which makes me glad to see them used well here. This keeps up until the end. I have to say that some parts didn't look too good for me in practice mode, such as 0:29, but it looks much better in normal mode. The pulsing circles around the arrows add a lot, and the movements and color pulses are all synchronized really well to the song, which is a throwback in itself. EnV songs aren't used much nowadays, but they're still very hype when used to me.
This description has a large focus on colors thus far, and that's because they're what really make this level stand out to me. That doesn't mean that there aren't other qualities here, though. The block design, decorations, and backgrounds also fit the oldschool vibe, as few newer objects are used. 0:36 to 0:41 is probably the worst part to me, but that's mostly because I just don't like brick blocks much. It's also the least colorful part as it's pretty much monochrome at all times. Besides that, I'm a fan of pretty much every part visually. The last part is a bit boring gameplay-wise because it's what you'd call tunnel gameplay (little up and down), which is quite repetitive for a Ship part. Earlier parts all have decently enjoyable gameplay that synchronizes well to the song, though. There are some small things here and there that make it less smooth, such as the black screen transitions and a few timings that have to be quite early or late for a level aimed at Easy Demon. I found the Wave part at 0:29 a bit harder than the rest, but that might be because it's my worst gamemode. These aren't major issues, though, so I think this deserves an Epic Easy Demon rating overall.
