Splatoon 3: Dealing with Chumps in Splat Zones [13(3)-5, Range Blaster]
I tried lobbing Suction Bombs over the top of the box in previous battles, but it does nothing but suck ink from my tank. This time, I just ink and dodge bombs, and help out a squidmate to the side. The other side has yellow inklings too, and splatting one doesn't seem to help much. Super Chumps come flying in, and my Wave Breaker isn't ready. The yellow team's is, and I get hit by one wave, but only because I see them getting on the block and I stick around to blast them off. Two of them, in fact. And with that, the Splat Zones turn purple. My Wave Breaker charges too, not that I need it at the moment, but I'm too psyched not to burn it, as we push forwards to apply some pressure.
Someone gets past us, but I track back and splat them, just after they launch more Chumps. And another Wave Breaker appears. And more Chumps? That's not the reason I don't react to the Splat Bomb in time, though. We're pushed back a little, and I hide from a Trizooka as I return, which seems sensible, poking out for pot-shots at an inkling straying near me. It takes a few shots but I splat someone, and although we've lost the lead it's not by much by the time we recover. I grab a drink and look for splats, retreating from a Wave Breaker and two more waves of Chumps. But we have the lead back.
I hide from another Trizooka, watching a squidmate fall to it, and don't quite realise I am alone when I try to hold the Splat Zones. The Dynamo Roller doesn't let me, either way. Now the yellow team are really pushing us back, and more Chumps aren't helping. But there's no rush, not yet, so I take my time moving up, taking back the turf, and getting another drink, by which time my squidmates have done the hard work. Nice! The feeling doesn't last long, as the Dynamo Roller gets behind us and wreaks havoc, but they feel my Wave Breaker in their tippy-toes, and we're back quickly, thanks to the juice.
Pushing up gets some hits but not splats, and I have to withdraw slightly. But I get around the corner, and realise my blasts can probably hit hiding inklings. And I'm right! I can't enjoy that splat enough at the time, as two more waves of Chumps fly in, neutralising the Splat Zones, and trying to splat one of the launchers makes me a target for the rest of the team. So it goes. The yellow team make the Splat Zones hard to approach again, but with some good positioning and perseverance, we get close enough to turn them purple before our score is threatened, although I suspect my squidmates getting splats helped.
With twenty seconds left to defend the Splat Zones, I stick to the side and blast away, moving up only to stop an inkling successfully hitting the flank, and retreating for one last splat. Mine, sadly, but it's not enough to force overtime, and the battle is won. Woomy!
