Splatoon 3 Online "Gameplay" #43: Welcome Back to Inkopolis Plaza!
The arrival of this game's Fresh Season 2023 was also the start of its DLC content.
The first half of its Expansion Pass lets your Inkling or Octoling take a train to Inkopolis Plaza, the hub area of Splatoon 1!
The shops you find here will have the same gear options that you can buy from Splatville. However, most of them will be ran by a combination of new and old characters.
The likes of Annie, Jelonzo, and even Spyke have returned to their original posts (hat shop, shirt shop, and back alley/Murch business, respectively) with brand new looks. New characters involve Fred Crumbs running the shoe shop and twins Shelly & Donny running the weapons shop.
This place isn't entirely decked out with new material, though. The Lobby and Grizzco still lead into the same building you saw them in Splatville, and the way to Splatoon 1's Hero Mode setting, Octo Valley, has been sealed of by garbage. Harmony's Hotlantis only exists in Splatville, so her shop will instead be accessed by phone.
But of course, the best thing about this throwback is the return of the Squid Sisters in their original outfits! Although they do not provide Splatoon 3's news under these conditions, if there's a Splatfest going on, Callie & Marie will perform their songs for their crowd during it if you visit the Plaza during such an event.
Ultimately, DLC is more or less adding a preference of where you want to hang out at. Almost everything you can get out of Splatville has some kind of equivalent in Inkopolis Plaza. You can go back and forth between the two places as much as you want.

And again, that's just the FIRST half of the Expansion Pass DLC. The second is a full-fledged campaign called "Side Order", like Splatoon 2's Octo Expansion. In fact, it involves Splatoon 2's Inkopolis Square and that place's idols, Off The Hook's Pearl & Marina!
I'm certain that Side Order will be about reviving Inkopolis Square, giving you another throwback hub to hang out at with its own set of characters. We'll just have to wait and see what happens with that later!
I'm hoping that because of that, later I can contextually make a video titled "Welcome Back to Inkopolis Square!"
