Here is one of the new weapons introduced in this season, the Reycled Brella 24 Mk I. A real mouthful of a name, it’s the latest in Brella releases. Appropriately, considering Side Order had just come out a week before Drizzle Season 2024, the new weapons are a new Brella and a new Dualies, the two weapon classes introduced in Splatoon 2. With the Recycled Brella and Douser Dualies out, there is now at least one new unbranded weapon introduced in every class in Splatoon 3.

This weapon appears to be an homage to the New Squidbeak Splatoon, with the weapon taking the rapid-fire nature, bamboo technology, and its naming scheme from Craig Cuttlefish’s Bamboozler 14 Mk I, and the Japanese paper parasol appearance from Marie’s non-weapon parasol she likes to keep around.

Like most of the other Brellas, the Recycled Brella shoots one shot per press of the trigger button, and holding it down causes its canopy to detach as a moving shield that also damages upon contact. What puts the Recycled Brella apart, however, is the speed at which the canopy generates, the fastest by far among any of the Brellas. Touching the canopy also deals 30 damage, comparable to other canopies, while each direct hit scores 90 damage (while attacks barely in range deal lesser multiples of 15). The downside is that this is the flimsiest canopy of all Brellas, taking only 100 damage before breaking.

The Recycled Brella 24 Mk I seems to be designed to inflict huge pressure on opponents. You can launch the canopy either to obscure their vision or in hopes of it touching them. People will instictively avoid touching the canopy or shoot it down, during which time their focus is on the canopy, not on you. From what I can see, it works very well in straight, narrow passageways, because the canopy takes up so much of the width that you can corral them, either down the passageway or them going around if the canopy is aimed to oneside and there’s a gap on the other side. It’s not that great of an inking weapon on its own though; this weapon needs someone else on the team to establish territory and help you. If all of your teammates are itching to fight and leap to the middle without inking anything (even Anarchy Battles need inked ground somewhere), or if they’re the other extreme and stay near the spawn and cover every little bit of ground, you’ll be at a disadvantage.

This weapon has the Angle Shooter as its sub weapon and the Big Bubbler as its special weapon. The Angle Shooter is a key part of this weapon’s effectiveness, because you can mark opponents from an incredible distance. If you have those aggressive teammates, you can use it to signal to them that there’s an opponent somewhere. It’s particularly useful if an opponent has snuck behind them without noticing, because they largely don’t respond to “This way!” signals, but they WILL descend when they see an opponent behind them has been marked. The Angle Shooter also automatically inflicts 45 damage on any opponent directly hit by it when you deploy it. This leaves them without enough HP to survive one direct hit from your weapon.

You’ll see that I got a lot of assist splats from the Angle Shooter and people touching the canopy or one shot while someone else finishes them off.

The Big Bubbler, on the other hand, is something I’m still not too clear on. This special weapon encourages you to stay in one place, but the Recycled Brella’s range isn’t that great, somewhere above average at best. Opponents can just stay away during the duration of the Big Bubbler. If you put it too close to the opposing side, they can walk right in and take you on point-blank, which is bad for this weapon because the canopy is so fragile that they’ll destroy the canopy, then you. I haven’t had enough practice with this weapon to fully understand it, but I think this weapon is meant for you to hold the line while your team is ahead, deploying the Big Bubbler at a chokepoint as extra protection or to defend the area against Charger and Splatling users.

This weapon seems to be much better suited for certain modes than others. The Big Bubbler and its quick, adaptable nature makes it a good choice for Tower Control and maybe Rainmaker, but its low inking and the fact that it can’t move around that well makes it good but not great for Splat Zones and Clam Blitz. Guess which Anarchy modes I got when I recorded this footage.
