Welcome to Maxis Spore, released in 2008 it was one of the last games created by Will Wright (creator of The Sims & SimCity) before he left Electronic Arts.
Spore is a very unique game that covers many kinds of genres due to how the main game works. You start off as a single cell and play through five stages as you evolve and develop an entire space faring species. Along with a fairly powerful creator/editor of not only creatures but also vehicles and buildings, you can just about create anything you can imagine in Spore.
This playthrough will go through all of the stages, going for a neutral route in order to show off as much of the game as possible. The goal is to get my species to the center of the universe and then find a specific planet in the solar system (since there is no ending to the game I figure that would be a fitting endpoint).
So to start things off is the cell stage, it’s pretty simple and short as you simply eat whatever your cell can eat and evolve with new parts you find. depending on what food we consume we will determine whenever our species will be a carnivore (eats meat), herbivore (eats plants, fruits etc.) or omnivore (both).
After that we enter the second longest stage, the creature stage in which we need to interact with various of other creatures by either befriending them or killing them off, getting parts becomes much more important as not only does getting new parts give you new abilities, but more expensive parts makes these abilities stronger which is important for dealing with more difficult creatures, especially if your going for neutral route.
On this part, we eat and get eaten, sing and dance to some creatures and slaughter the rest.
