In this stream, I'll be checking out some of the new features from the Alpha 3.18 update, such as:
- Persistent Entity Streaming and Server Meshing:
This is the key technology that will make Star Citizen stand out from other games in this genre. It allows for seamless transitions between different servers and regions, as well as persistent objects and locations that will remain even after you log off.
- Salvage:
This is arguably the biggest gameplay loop addition when considering all the new features in 3.18. You can now use specialized tools and ships to salvage wrecks and debris for valuable materials and components.
- Daymar Crash Site:
This is a new location on the moon of Daymar that features a massive crashed ship surrounded by debris and enemies. It's a great place to test your combat and salvage skills.
- Rivers and Canyons:
These are new environmental features that have been added to microTech and Hurston. They add more variety and beauty to the planets, as well as new challenges for exploration and navigation.
- Orison Changes:
This is a major overhaul of the floating city of Orison on Crusader. It now has more landing zones, shops, services, and attractions for players to enjoy.
- Cargo Refactor Tier 1:
This is a quality-of-life improvement that makes cargo handling more realistic and intuitive. You can now see the actual cargo boxes inside your ship's cargo grid, and interact with them directly.
- Security Post Kareah:
This is a revamped location on an asteroid near Cellin. It's a high-security facility that offers bounty hunting missions, hacking terminals, and intense PvP action.
- Race Missions:
These are new missions that are being added throughout the Stanton System. Players will be able to test their skills versus set times, earning rewards based on performance and even unlocking more tracks as they progress.
