In this tutorial video I show you how to fix the annoying bug or glitch where the Steam Deck on-screen controller prompts don't show the correct icons or letters.
In many cases this is because the "Recommended" controller config template was not created by the games developer for the Steam Deck, but rather the Steam Controller, a totally different device that is now discontinued.
It could be that the controls for the game you're playing are fine, but the "tool-tips" or "prompts" that guide you as to which buttons to press are wrong.
By changing to the "Gamepad With Joystick Trackpad" (probably the best template for most games) your Steam Deck treats its built in controls as if they were an Xbox controller, and most games will recognize this and the on-screen gamepad prompts will now be correct.
