Steam release! Making Combat much more Fun with Avatar Masks! - indie devlog #3
WISHLIST IT NOW ON STEAM: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2615480/Aboleo_Shadow_of_the_Crown/
Hello everyone and welcome to the third devlog of my game that finally has an official name. The name of the game is ''Aboleo: Shadow of the Crown''. Also the big deal about this devlog is that the game has finally been released on Steam, meaning you can click the link above and Wishlist it if you like what you're seeing.
What is this devlog about? Well, my main focus on this devlog was the combat. The combat in the last 2 devlog was, let's be honest, really boring. So I tried to fix it in many ways but I think the thing that worked for me was the Avatar mask. What is an avarar mask? Avatar mask is when you trigger an animation but only specific parts of it play, for example for my new combat I'm triggering only the upper part of the body of the characther while the down part doesn't animate but stays in run state or the idle state. It really made the combat feel much more fun and fast paced.
I also added animation rigging! Animation rigging made the game feel more immersive because the head and the spine of the player now follows the camera direction so your character will now always look into the direction where you're looking. Isn't that beautiful?
One more important thing that I added is multi choice dialogue system which will finally allow me to make multiple stories in one game, so that each player will feel like their story is unique. Of course, with that comes multiple endings.
To immerse yourself even more, I added weapon sheating and unsheating so your adventurer doesn't run all day with his weapon drawn if there is no need for that, now he can sheath them to look more friendly to fellow villagers. So they don't feel threatened haha.
I removed the minimap and the map because it kind of felt like cheating but I did add an compass which should help fellow adventurers find their ways in the land of Veridia.
I also changed the grass completely! I think this one looks and feels better to walk on, as it is interactable, meaning when you walk on it the grass will bend and it will leave a trail of where you were walking to make you feel even more immersed in this magical world!
So since the last devlog there was a lot of Unity Drama and their run-time fee thing. My comment over that? Shame, they really screwed a lot of people and their games over. Will I do anything about it? Not really, I'll continue developing my game because I don't really care about the money, yes it's nice to make a buck but I'm mostly doing this because I actually love it. So yeah, I'm sorry for any fellow developer that got screwed up with Unity's policy changes...
There is not much more for me to say, but thank you all for watching this video, thank you for being the part of this project.
