Initially using its own original circuit board the fan max speed as though using the battery itself - and after it has been upgraded the LM2577 can amplify the voltage from 4 volts to 12 volts which is 3 times the original speed. This IC is very cheap to get and yet it works better than the rest that I've tried because of its high current output..
