[Stream] 2023 7DRL Let's Plays (1/7)
417-day Roguelike Challenge 2023! I've browsed through all 124 turn-based entries from this year and picked a bunch to stream (there are so many good ones, oh my...). This stream starts with some background info, then our first batch with Life Cyan, Fading Signal, Fire-Fighting Wizard Pet Rescue Roguelike, and Turbo Vector. (One of the Life Cyan devs was hanging in chat with more info, too.)
Today's games:
* 00:11:40 - Life Cyan (https://kaya3.itch.io/life-cyan): A stealth game that gives you several tools to help avoid roaming sentries that will act differently if suspicious or having spotted you. The writing didn't add much for me, and personally I wasn't able to quickly grasp some aspects of the stealth mechanics, but it's challenging without being overly hard, and very polished in audiovisual terms. Worth your time if you enjoy stealth games. The dev team happens to be a group of Invisible, Inc. modders (surprise surprise :P)
* 01:40:47 - Fading Signal (https://enjl.itch.io/fading-signal): Cue attack/move/wait actions as you explore subterranean areas, where the number of actions you must cue to execute in a row depends on your depth. Very polished UI/graphics/audio, and interesting to check out, but the mechanics don't really combine to create many compelling tactical challenges.
* 02:11:30 - Fire-Fighting Wizard Pet Rescue Roguelike (https://keep-flying-games.itch.io/fire-fighting-wizard-pet-rescue-roguelike): A strongly Rift Wizard-inspired entry in which you collect items, buy spells, and charge into burning houses to fight growing fires and rescue pets with your magic. Very well done, a favorite among the 10+ I've tried so far.
* 03:41:42 - Turbo Vector (https://leftsharkbyte.itch.io/turbovector): Vector momentum turn-based racing. Yep. Choose your track and laps, then try to stay ahead of the pack, and on the track, without too many collisions. Not too hard, but interesting to experience another momentum-focused roguelike (past years' 7drls have included more layers of mechanics on top, but at least in this case all the AIs have the same goal as you, so that's unique :D)
