Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition - F.A.N.G's Story
0...this is not the Poison I had in mind, Street Fighter!
The last of Shadaloo's Four Kings, and the only one of them to debut in this game, F.A.N.G (pronounced Fong) is...one of the goofier characters in SFV. His design is cartoonishly thin, his animations are typically very silly (just look at his Critical Art!) and his voice is kinda funny in it's own way, yet he's one of the more dangerous cast members through the use of his deadly poison.
From what I can dig up, F.A.N.G could stand for the FAng of NGuuhao, the criminal cartel he was in charge of until Bison came along. SO it's a codename...that is kinda weird. I mean, I guess snakes inject venom with their fangs, so that's that... His story is pretty self-explanatory here, and as we've seen in other character stories, he's a frequent enforcer of Bison's will, and plays a big part in story mode. He's a major antagonist that makes him a rival of both Rashido and Chun-Li, and with him in charge of Operation C.H.A.I.N.S (no idea what that stands for) stopping him is as important as taking Bison out.
F.A.N.G is a charge character, which I already have trouble with, but he also has a fairly unique gimmick: poison. Many of his attacks inflict poison on the enemy, whittling their health down over time, however it can never KO an opponent by itself and the effect goes away if F.A.N.G is ever hit. All told, I find him VERY awkward and while somewhat interesting...I ain't feelin' it. And is it me or does the CPU get SUPER tough all of a sudden? I guess it makes Bison look all the more intimidating...and also makes the video more exciting!
His V-Skill tosses a poison projectile straight ahead that poisons on contact, while his first V-Trigger, Dokunomu, will poison foes that stand close to F.A.N.G, so that's some added pressure! His second V-Trigger Koryo Dokuda, improves his special moves and allows him to link moves that he couldn't before.
With his unveiling, F.A.N.G was derided by fans for his design and gameplay, though I'm not sure how he fares now. He seems different at the very least, and I can respect that...and the idea of a poison fighter is cool!
But maybe...just maybe Capcom can give us...another dosage of Poison. You know, the one with the riding crop and big pink hair?
