Sunset Riders[a] is a side-scrolling shooter game developed and published by Konami in 1991 as a coin-operated video game on the JAMMA arcade platform. Set in the American Wild West, the player takes control of a bounty hunter who is looking for rewards for various criminals.

The Coin-Op version is released in two formats: a two-player version and a four-player version. Home console versions of Sunset Knight were released to critical acclaim for the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis in 1992 and the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993. As part of the company's Arcade Archives series, The Hamster Company has released an emulated version of the arcade original for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.

Gameplay
Sunset Riders Genesis Edition contains most of the changes made to the game between the two Sunset Riders Sega Genesis/Mega-Drive lids

version of the game. Of the four protagonists of the arcade game, only Billy and Cormano appear. Two characters in the Genesis Edition were given last names (Billy Cool and Cormano Wild) that they didn't originally have in the arcade version. The controls are the same as the arcade version, except for the addition of two shoot buttons instead of one: one button allows the player to walk and shoot at the same time, while the other shoot button keeps the character still when pressed, allowing the player to just change their aim.

The arcade version contains only four of the eight bosses, and each of the four chapters is divided into two phases. The boot icon has also been replaced. Unlike other versions, players can detonate a stick of dynamite by shooting. In order to enter the bonus level, the player must collect the star-shaped items found in one level of each chapter. The bonus level differs from the arcade version, where the player chases a moving carriage on horseback, while the woman in the carriage throws bonus coins and extra lives in the player's path.

In addition to the standard game mode, the Genesis version also features a two-player mode. Players must shoot each other until one of the players loses health.
