I use Ness to go through All-Sta Mode, and while you deal increased damage to opponents, this is not through projectiles, so moves like Ness's PK Fire aren't going to deal that much damage, but it is good for getting in as much damage as you can, the best moves you will want to use are Ness's forward smash, and while he does have good throws, they are best used when your opponent has taken enough damage to get a KO with that move. While you do take less damage and knockback from your opponent's attacks, you do have to watch out for stage hazards.
With Ness's Alt. Trophies, the 3DS version uses his 6th alternate costume, while the Wii U version uses his 3rd alternate costume.
I will go over All-Star Mode and which characters you fight against.
Round 1 (2015-2007): Corrin, Greninja, Lucina, Robin, Dark Pit, Shulk, Bayonetta, Wii Fit Trainer, Rosalina & Luma
Round 2 (2006-2001): Lucario, Lucas, Ike, Zero Suit Samus, Toon Link, Bowser Jr., Roy, Olimar, Villager
Round 3 (1998-1994): Ganondorf, Sheik, Cloud, Jigglypuff, Charizard, Pikachu, Mewtwo, Diddy Kong, Ness
Round 4 (1993-1991): Meta Knight, Falco, Fox, Wario, King Dedede, Kirby, Sonic
Round 5 (1990-1986): Captain Falcon, Yoshi, Dr. Mario, Marth, Mega Man, Ryu, Palutena, Pit
Round 6 (1986-1984): Samus, Zelda, Link, Bowser, Peach, R.O.B., Duck Hunt Duo
Round 7 (1984-1980): Little Mac, Luigi, Donkey Kong, Mario, Pac-Man, Mr. Game & Watch

Only one stage from the EarthBound, or Mother series, is in both versions of Super Smash Bros. 4, and both of them appear for Ness, as he is the only character from that series that is in the base game, Lucas is DLC. The following stages you fight Ness and other characters that debuted in 1998-1994 in the 3DS version are Spirit Train, Unova Pokémon League, Magicant, and Midgar, and in the Wii U version, the stages are Kongo Jungle 64, Bridge of Eldin, Pokémon Stadium 2, Onett, and Midgar.
Ness's Final Smash Trophy, or PK Starstorm (Ness) as it is called, it was just called PK Starstorm in the base game, before Lucas was included as a DLC character, but both moves are the same in this game where you can control the meteors by moving the control stick, so it doesn't affect the whole stage like it used to.
