I use Sonic the Hedgehog for this Classic Mode video, and he is one of two Third-Party characters added in the Super Smash Bros. series back in Brawl. What I do is I randomize a list to decide who my next characters will be, but my playlist for Classic Mode displays the fighter in order of how they are displayed on the roster. Sonic's Classic Mode route is At the Speed of Sound, in some fights, they reference Sonic games in order of how they were released, and Sonic does fight some of the fastest characters in this game, likely to do with Sonic being the fastest character in the game.
To unlock Sonic, there are many different ways, one of them is through Vs. Matches, where Sonic is the 17th character to be unlocked, and he is the 1st character unlocked by completing Classic Mode with Mario.
Sonic's Classic Mode route references other Sonic games, in Round 1, his opponent is Fox, and the stage is Green Hill Zone, Fox likely represents Miles "Tails" Prower, Sonic's sidekick, who is also a fox, who made his first appearance in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Fox could also be picked as he is one of the faster characters in this game. In Round 2, you fight Captain Falcon on Figure-8 Circuit, and with Super Sonic Racing playing, it could be a reference to Sonic R, as Captain Falcon and Figure-8 Circuit did originate from racing games. In Round 3, you fight a Giant Metal Sonic on Omega Form Fourside, this is a reference to Chaos, the main villain from Sonic Adventure, this could also be a reference to Metal Sonic as well, and even if you are playing as the default costume, your opponent will always have the default costume. In Round 4, you fight three Kirbys on Halberd, this is a reference to Sonic Heroes, including the music, the Kirbys represent the three character types, the Blue Kirby is Speed, the Yellow Kirby is Flight, and the Red Kirby is Power, and Halberd being the stage could be a reference to the Egg Fleet, one of the final courses in Sonic Heroes. In Round 5, you fight Sheik on Mushroomy Kingdom, the music and stage is a reference to Sonic and the Secret Rings, which has an Arabian setting. In Round 6, you fight a Giant Incineroar on Windy Hill Zone, this references Zavok, the leader of the Deadly Six, likely to do with the colour scheme, and it is a reference to Sonic Lost World.
Then we get the Bonus Stage, and after that is a fight with Master Hand, and if you are playing on Intensity 7.0 or higher, you have to fight Crazy Hand as well. This route took me a bunch of tries, likely because of the Metal Sonic and the Giant Incineroar being some of the harder fights during that route.
After completing Classic Mode, you get the credits, which plays Live and Learn, which is from Sonic Adventure 2, and you earn the Fighter Sprit for Sonic, and there are two other Spirits for him, there is Super Sonic, and there is his Werehog form from Sonic Unleashed.
