This is just a bunch of optional stuff you can do with Surf, and the main point of interest is Fuego Ironworks, which you don't need to go to in order to progress with the story, it's just there to explore if you want to. Then I go all around the Sinnoh region and seeing what items I can pick up now that I have Surf.

As for the rest of the description, I recommend watching the full video before reading past this point of the description

At the beginning of the video, I show that if you give 10 Heart Scales to the Move Maniac, you can use him for free, which is a good thing to do.
I will go over Fuego Ironworks, for items, you can get two Fire Stones, the TM for Flamethrower, which you can also buy at Veilstone Department Store, and a Rock Incense, which you can give to Sudowoodo to obtain Bonsly from Eggs. There are a lot of spinning tiles around the area, and as for outside, there are no new encounters, well technically there is Luxio, but you had access to Shinx back on Route 202, but the nice thing about the Luxio there is you can just level it up once and you can get Luxray right away.
In Platinum, you would be able to find Magnemite and Magmar there, and both can be found in the Grand Underground in this game, I will start with Magnemite, if you catch it at this point, it does have Flash Cannon right away and you can teach it Thunderbolt through TM, and you can evolve it into Magneton right away, and level it up in Mt. Coronet to get Magnezone, a great Electric/Steel-type Special Attacker, a high recommendation if you are in need of an Electric-type, if caught before the second Gym, it has a rough start, as it has to rely on Electro Ball early on. You can also evolve Magneton into Magnezone with a Thunder Stone like in Sword & Shield, but I would say that Mt. Coronet is easier so that you don't have to use up a Thunder Stone that way.
For Magmar, you can find its pre-evolved form Magby in the Grand Underground, it is exclusive to Shining Pearl, and there is a 5% chance you can find them holding the Magmarizer, which you can give to Magmar to evolve it into Magmortar when traded. Early on, it would have Flame Wheel, but at this point, it can have Lava Plume, and if caught at Level 40, it will have Flamethrower. As for Egg Moves, it can have some good moves like Flare Blitz, Cross Chop, Mach Punch, and Thunder Punch. Magmortar learns some good Special moves like Flamethrower, Thunderbolt, Psychic, and many other moves, a great option for a Fire-type if you can get one with the Magmarizer.
On Route 205, you can get the TM for Thunderbolt, which you can give to Pokémon like Clefable, Mr. Mime, Gengar, Girafarig, Drifblim, and a few other Pokémon, and you can access Floaroma Meadow, which has a Leaf Stone and a Miracle Seed, and there are a lot of hidden items there.
Next is Route 204, you can get a Sea Incense, which allows you to get Azurill if you give it to a Marill and breed it, and in Ravaged Path, you can get a Luck Incense and the TM for Water Pulse, while Surf is better, Water Pulse can be learned by some non-Water-types, like Clefable, Blissey, Spiritomb, and a few others, the Luck Incense allows you to breed for Happiny.
Then Ravaged Path, you can get the TM for Brick Break, a good Fighting-type move to equip on Pokémon like Golem, Machamp, Medicham, Rampardos, and some other good Physical Attackers, which you can get earlier if you have the bike, but once you have Surf, there is a Trainer you can fight, and you will want to fight that Trainer, because he is the only one in the game that uses a Riolu, so it's worth going your way to fight him.
There is a hidden PP Up in Eterna City, and then in Mt. Coronet, you can get a Dawn Stone and Protein, the Dawn Stone can be used to evolve a male Kirlia into Gallade or a female Snorunt into Froslass, and Route 208 has a Fisherman you can battle.
You can get the TM for Giga Drain on Route 209, which you can teach to Cherrim, Tentacruel, Gengar, or any other Pokémon, it is a good Grass-type move to have, and on Route 212, you can get a Rose Incense, which you can give to a Roselia so you can get Budew from Eggs, and the TM for Poison Jab, a Physical Poison-type move which can be nice for Pokémon like Machamp, Medicham, Skuntank, Drapion, and many others, and you can get a Mystic Water in Pastoria City.
On Route 213, there are some Trainers you can battle against, and you can get a Water Stone on that route as well.
