#SuperOldGameSaturday - Gunstar Heroes (Sega Genesis)
Originally Recorded/Aired On January 22nd, 2022
Both myself and the chat have mentioned a desire to play Gunstar Heroes on #SuperOldGameSaturday for a while now and, with this stream, we finally gave this Sega Genesis platform shooting classic its due (albeit via the Sega Genesis Mini unit) and shared our memories, insights, praise and, at times, struggles related his terrific game from developer Treasure. A group of former Konami developers lead by Norio Hanzawa, Treasure desired working on more original properties and, after a failed pitch of this game to Konami and showing their skills to Sega on McDonalds Treasure Land Adventure (which we've previously played on this program), they got to make this, their passion project, and man, did that show with how much of a technical powerhouse this game is, as well as how incredibly fun, creative, polished and challenging it is. Clearly, people wanted to see this game on this show, because I had quite an active chat, consisting of familiar faces (like ElecVerse, DollyFinn, Edwak and Nocturne) and some new ones (like kriairsh and again, thank you for watching and sorry that I couldn't pronounce your name correctly) and we dove deep into this one in terms of the background of its developers, its great presentation and music, its outstanding 2-player mode, the high accolades this game got at the time and all of our memories of the game's levels, bosses, set pieces and unique touches (like the Dice Palace, graphical differences between your chosen control methods and even a brief look at the Japanese version of the game and its Expert Mode). On top of that, we discussed other varied topics, like Microsoft's purchase of Activision, disco music, other games of Treasure's, future streams we'll be doing (including audience requests made here), the emulation prowess of the Xbox systems (including two links related to that from Modern Vintage Gamer, as provided by ElecVerse, so thank you for those: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UGAjhjp8dnI and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gn8LqGCSxSo) and even the reason why I do this show, which includes mentions BY NAME from myself and the chat regarding the elephant of the room tied to that (which I put a tag in for just to see if YouTube goes crazy over seeing that word) and also underscores that, thanks to all of you who watch and join me in the chat each Saturday, this is a community program where we're something of a family where we're all in it together, both in gaming and in life, and we have all of each other's backs and support (and thank you again ElecVerse for your bravery and openness in making that a bedrock of this show). So yes, this is a show about having a relaxing and fun time with gaming, but it's also something more thanks to all of you and something I look forward to each Saturday night. So thank you all again and hope you enjoy our play of Gunstar Heroes (and if you like what you see here, stop by https://www.twitch.tv/captainditrag each Saturday at 7 PM EST to see these streams live and join the conversations on what we play each week)!
