#SuperOldGameSaturday - Sailor Moon: Another Story (Super Famicom) - Part 1
Originally Recorded/Aired on March 26th, 2022
It's time to start the next role-playing game on #SuperOldGameSaturday and it's one that only Japan got, despite the popularity of the anime that it's based on (so we're increasing our anime quota on the show) On the request of DollyFinn, who also joined me for its first part here, we have Sailor Moon: Another Story for the Super Famicom, a 1995 RPG taking place somewhere around Sailor Moon S and Super S, but taking the Sailor Scouts/Senshi on a world-spanning and time-travelling quest to save the world from demons and defeat the evil Lord Apsu and the Opposito Senshi that are tapping into the past exploits of the titular pretty solider and her planet-monikered friends. Despite this never officially releasing in the US, however, there are fan translations of this one to let us follow the story, of which this is the 1.0 version that's within the reproduction cartridge copy I picked up at MAGFest a few years ago and that we're using to go through this one. As is custom with the RPGs we play for this show, we run for 5 hours each month until we finish (which I think will be 4 months for this one) and, for this game's inaugural part, DollyFinn, chat and I dove deep into our fandom of this franchise, our memories of how we got into it, how much permanence this enterprise really has on us (case in point, I suddenly remembered TONS of quotations of this show just from my practicing of it), the significant differences between the US and Japanese versions of the show (which also got into explorations on gender, sexual orientation, age of consent laws and what Sailor Moon's regional changes related to those things may say about different cultures, especially 27 years later) and other aspects of animation, anime and television, including the much-beloved Toonami block that introduced many to this show. So, thank you DollyFinn for joining me for the first part of this request of yours, as well as to chat for kicking this one off right, and hope you enjoy part 1 of Sailor Moon: Another Story (and if you like what you see here, stop by https://www.twitch.tv/captainditrag each Saturday at 7 PM EST to see these streams live and join/help drive the conversations on what we play each week)!
