The #SuperOldGameSaturday Fighting Game Showcase
Originally Recorded/Aired On November 27th, 2021
Welcome to the #SuperOldGameSaturday program's second annual post-Thanksgiving genre showcase, where we give a holistic look to a genre of video games with discussions of my history with them, their importance for the industry and all of your insights in the chat! Last year, we took a look at a group of flight shooters and for 2021, we covered 22 fighting games that I have playable on the Xbox 360, but they cover the gamut of time periods, styles and systems of origin, including arcade, Dreamcast, Xbox, PlayStation, Saturn and many more. Timestamps to each of the games we looked at can be found below but for each, the chat and I had a great time diving deep into the games/series that we gave a little taste of, as well as indicating ones that are worth having future dedicated streams for. To that, just because we look at a game in any of the showcase shows we'll do doesn't mean that this is all we'll be seeing of them on this program, as many have story modes that we'll be returning to tackle at later dates and some are just so much fun that they'll deserve more than the 15 or so minutes of play we gave them here. From discussing our personal history with the subjects here, mentioning random aspects tied to these games (like the Console Wars show's take on Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IvBc382w44), giving looks at Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 that you WON'T want to miss, the chat consisting of people who met boxing legend Muhammad Ali or PERHAPS violating Twitch's content standards accidentally (so, this may not be a show for children, not that it was ever positioned as such, and I DID edit that part for YouTube), this was a great time with a large variety of fighting games that got the talk, attention, deep exploration and great chat interaction that's become the hallmark of what #SuperOldSaturday has become. I'm open to any ideas you have for future showcase shows, which will always be on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, so leave those suggestions in the comments and we can do them. In the meantime, I'm very proud to present this stream, which also has many great retro gaming gift ideas for this holiday and I hope you enjoy the #SuperOldGameSaturday Fighting Game Showcase (and if you like what you see here, stop by https://www.twitch.tv/captainditrag each Saturday at 7 PM EST to see these streams live and join the conversations on what we play each week)!
