Continuing with our Nintendo 64 love here on #SuperOldGameSaturday, this time, we're celebrating the 25th anniversary of an underrated and unique racing/puzzle hybrid with a penchant for destruction, space travel and nods to The Dukes of Hazzard, Starsky & Hutch, The A-Team and debatably CHiPs. Yes, it's Blast Corps, the second N64 title developed by Rareware, as played on the original system (it's also on Xbox One and, by extension, Xbox Series S and Series X via Rare Replay) and, for such a varied and all over the place game from the late 90s, the discussion from myself and the chat also covered quite a lot of ground as we played this hidden 64-bit gem to completion. From discussions on the Sonic The Hedgehog movie and Jim Carrey's career, to the aforementioned referenced television shows to discussions about Space Ghost: Coast 2 Coast, The Nanny, Fran Drescher, the Ms. Swan skits from MAD TV, recent game announcements that have us excited and/or perplexed and a great suggestion by ElecVerse to Nintendo and Wayforward regarding their currently indefinitely delayed Advance Wars 1 + 2: Reboot Camp release, we covered the harbor on this game (while also showing a harbor level that resulted in strong stress from me). Also, as is custom for this show, as we played this one to protect the world from devastation from a runaway nuclear carrier, we went deep into the game itself, with its surprisingly deep lore, its mix of tones, its great music, information about its development and its clever menagerie of vehicles, robots and mission types that clearly left an impact on me and perhaps to some of you out there. I had a great time giving this game the attention I feel it deserves, along with sharing all of my memories as we celebrate 25 years of its existence and having the chat's involvement that, as always, I can't thank you all enough for.
