#SuperOldGameSaturday - Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards (Nintendo 64)
Originally Recorded/Aired On October 2nd, 2021
It was only a matter of time before the #SuperOldGameSaturday program would start covering Kirby, Nintendo and HAL Laboratory's beloved and always hungry pink cream puff (or ghost or whatever he's considered as), and we started with one of his best games and a favorite of many I know (and many in the chats for these streams). Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards was the 2000 entry in the series for Nintendo 64 that played with 3D perspectives to enhance the series' approachable/tried and true 2D platforming gameplay, as well as gave a killer twist on the franchise's signature copy mechanic with its ability mixing, so we played through the whole game to 100%. As usual for this show, that led to great exploration and discussion on the game, the series (including the Kirby: Right Back At Ya! anime and other anime, too) and other aspects of gaming, including some single part streams that I'm working on getting back to, future requests for shows, some darker aspects of gaming (including the confirmed Shiver Star theory of this one) and other seemingly random, but still somehow pertinent topics, along with covering some of the unique extras of this one, like all the character cards, mini-games and even options to adjust the HUD. This was a great start for us looking at this terrific series (and a fitting one for this Fall season), as well as enjoying its terrific music, presentation, gameplay and difficulty curve, so hope you enjoy our first show for "that there Kirby" (and if you like what you see here, stop by https://www.twitch.tv/captainditrag each Saturday at 7 PM EST to see these streams live and join the conversations on what we play each week)!
