#SuperOldGameSaturday - Streets of Rage (Sega Genesis) via Sega Classics Arcade Collection (Sega CD)

September 18th marked the 30th anniversary to the day of the North American release of the brilliant Sega Genesis beat-em-up, Streets of Rage and, when it comes to honoring classic video games when they hit such a milestone, #SuperOldGameSaturday is there to lead the celebration. Yes, it HAS been than long since this great game's release, so we gave it a well-deserved play (actually, we gave it THREE, technically), complete with all of the discussions and explorations of it that have become a hallmark of this program (along with other discussion topics from the chat, including Sailor Moon, Kiss, Austin Powers, Mad TV, Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers and more). This was also a unique look at this classic in that we used the Sega Classics Arcade Collection on the Sega CD to play it, which marked my first exposure to this one, as well as having clearer voice samples (and sadly, slowdown) that no other version of Streets of Rage has. Yet, it's still just as much fun as it ever was and has some of the best music you'll ever hear in a video game, composed by the great Yuzo Koshiro, that's just as great to get your dancing groove on as it is to help ex-police officers Axel, Blaze and Adam beat up the members of Mr. X's syndicate.
