August's entry of #SuperSonicGameSaturday is a game that's too big for one night, so we started playing Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast (we'll be finishing it on Saturday, August 21st, after which, it will be uploaded here). This 1998/1999 title was the first fully 3D Sonic game and marked the return of Sega's now 30 year old character/series after being mostly absent during the Saturn era, but for someone like me who was waiting for Sonic's next big release back then, this was everything I wanted it to be. Today, there have been many other versions of this, but aside from the 2010 HD version on PC with the "Dreamcast Conversion" suite of mods applied to it, none of them came even close to this US Dreamcast edition, which fixed many of the Japanese version's glitches (but not all of them, as you'll see) and kept the cooler, but more vivid color palate and art direction that the later ones washed out. For this 1st part, we played through Sonic and Tails' stories, started Knuckles' story and did so with the same great discussions from the chat (who I thank and appreciate once again) about game mechanics, our favorite bosses/character music, the idea of Tails being broken in this one and much more, all in glorious 1080p using the Retrotink 5x that will make streaming this show much easier, better looking and without those feed cuts I always talk about (though THIS stream DID go down about 3 1/4 hours in, but you won't know it by the edits in this).
