I have gotten some questions of late about surrendering and what that means spiritually. If I surrender is that enlightenment?

Surrender is a very important spiritual principle. The struggle to truly surrender one's will to the truth requires us to have a understanding of truth, Right Views as the Buddha put it.

But it's not easy. This was exemplified by the struggles of Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane.

How doe's one surrender to that which is unpleasant, maybe even frightening.

The ego does not want to surrender. More accurately the ego can't surrender. The ego is a deal maker. It is always looking for what it's going to get out of it.

Spiritual surrender asks more of us. It is not giving up a thing, like a sacrifice on an alter. It is the giving up of oneself. That is, giving up the ego, the false sense of self, the self that was never you in the first place.

When this surrender is complete we find we lost absolutely nothing. We gave up the shadow in exchange for the real thing.
