Now that I was in the subway, I came across my first stumbling block. The way forward was blocked by bats. After speaking with Kurk, I had a look around. I found some Youkol cloth (3:10), some wood/root (6:45) and some seaweed (5:58). I then attempted to make a torch to scare the bats with. There was a lighter on the work bench which I would need to light the torch (11:55) and a flask (12:05). I assembled the torch with the root, then the cloth, then doused it in alcohol. I could then light it with the lighter. I took the torch to attempt to scare the bats away, but they were trapped in the tunnel by closed conduits. Kurk asked if I could find a way to open them, so I spoke with Oscar for help. He insisted that he could go outside and do the task. I had a look around with Oscar, first finding the shears/bolt cutters. I then needed to move the fire truck. I found the ignition key in the glove box (25:40) and proceeded to operate the fire truck. I moved it forward, and then got out. I then had to operate the ladder controls so that I could position the ladder to access the roof of the tunnel. It took some time, as it did appear clear when the ladders were in the correct position. Once in position, I could walk up them and open the conduit. Opening the conduit startled the mechanical dogs, but I could scare them away with the fire hose (34:30). Now I could go back to Kate walker. The air lock would not let me out, as it was not able to run the test without iodine. Iodine is in seaweed, so I could use the seaweed to finish the decontamination on Oscar. I now had to light my torch again to scare the bats out of the tunnel once and for all.
