This Short is a first impressions style mini review of the recently released System Shock remake. Here is a transcript:

I think of the System Shock remake as a great way to learn a bit about video game history. I care about understanding gaming history, but I have a hard time playing retro games, and the System Shock remake is kind of like the perfect compromise. The gameplay is faithful to the 1994 original, but the graphics and atmosphere make it easy to get into, and I really enjoy its survival horror esque gameplay that emphasizes scarce ammo and scrounging for resources. I feel like I’m learning a lot about a major influence on some of my favorite games like Prey and Bioshock and Cyberpunk 2077. And that’s a great thing to get from a game, because my gaming hobby isn’t only about having fun, it’s also about understanding the games that I love so much and what makes them tick.
