Tears of the Kingdom: a Critique of the Shrines
280The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a console-defining masterpiece, there's no doubt about it; but it's also not above a little bit of criticism. In this video I explain one way in which it falls short of Breath of the Wild. The problem has to do with the role of the shrines in the game's story. Although the shrine puzzles are generally more interesting to solve in TotK, they make very little sense from a narrative and lore perspective, and they particularly suffer from comparison with Breath of the Wild. Breath of the Wild does a better job of using the shrines as opportunities for story/lore development and world building. More details in the video!
