TA troops help prepare Ugandan Army 07.12.11
TA troops from Northern Ireland have just returned from Africa where they provided a week long pre deployment training package to the Ugandan Army in preparation for their deployment to Mogadishu in support of the African Union Mission in Somalia. Like Afghanistan, Somalia is seen by the government as one of the biggest threats facing the UK and through peacekeeping missions they hope to gradually deny space to those who threaten British interests and regional security. The TA have been providing support to the Ugandan Peoples Defence force for the last six months in the form of short term training teams. This time round it was the turn of Northern Ireland based 2 Royal Irish, who were more than happy to switch their focus from Afghanistan.
