A Raspberry Pi is a small computer that allows your Tesla think it is a USB storage device. The neat part of using a raspberry pi over a storage device is when you connect to your home wifi, it will automatically upload your dash cam files.

For this setup you need a Raspberry Pi Zero W and an SD Card. The bundle I purchased included everything except for the SD Card. I included a link in the description below. For the SD Card, I use a SanDisk Extreme.

There are different ways to set is this up as well as more advanced options, however I will show you the most basic usage possible. The Pi will upload dash cam & sentry mode files to a shared Windows folder.

In this video we will follow 3 steps:
1. Get windows setup
2. Flash Raspbian
3. Fill out config file

Let's now look at each step more in detail.
1. Get windows setup: We need to get a shared folder or location for the Pi to access and transfer data too. Firstly, create a folder where you want to share the data to. Then you right click the folder and press "give access to". For me, I have a user account setup on my windows server for the purpose of sharing data. You need to know your Windows user name and password for step 3. You need to make sure the user has read and write permission. Clicking "choose specific person" will bring up the screen so you can adjust this.

2. Flash Raspbian: To start you need to download and install Etcher. Use this link to install https://www.balena.io/etcher/. Once installed you want to go to https://github.com/marcone/teslausb/releases and download the latest release. After it finishes downloading, insert the SD card into the computer.

Open Etcher and search for the zip file you just downloaded. Then make sure you select the SD Card location and press flash. On the right side you will see a progress bar. Once it is done flashing the files onto the SD card it will validate it. After validating that it was flashed successfully, it will unmount the SD Card. This means it is basically not plugged in anymore.

3. Fill out config file: Unplug the SD Card and replug it back into your computer. If Windows asks you to "formate the drive", do not do this. You need to go to the "boot" directory. In the boot directory is a "teslausb_setup_variables.conf" file. You need to edit the values in this file.

If the text is not formatted nicely, copy this config text over to your file. https://pastebin.com/raw/6zj2qpiu

These values for your server are the ones that you setup in step 1: archiveserver (name of the computer), sharename (name of the folder you are sharing), shareuser, sharepassword (the user login info for windows. Needs to have access to the folder you shared).

These are your wifi network information: SSID, WIFIPASS

Boot it in your Pi, give it a bit, watching for a series of flashes and then a reboot. The Pi should be available for ssh at pi@teslausb.local but keep in mind it can take up to 5 minutes or more to load.

When plugged into just a power source, or your car, give it a few minutes until the LED starts pulsing steadily which means the archive loop is running and you're good to go.

Helpful Tips:
- You might have to run "/etc/rc.local" in ssh to get it all working. To do so, you have to type "sudo -i" and then "/root/bin/remountfs_rw" first to allow the raspberry file system to be accessible.
- You may not see the USB symbol in your Tesla. This just means that your USB cable is a power cable only. You would require two cables, one for the power port and one for the data port and or one new data and power cable.
- You can use Putty to ssh into the Pi. Use "pi@teslausb.local". The password is raspberry.
