all frequencies are labeled, see what you hear.

ALL levels are at - 6db so it shouldn't blast.
All test tones are sinusoids. No square waves .

3 parts: revamped for better flow.
1. special effect sounds 10
2. sonic tones 120 Hz to 20 Hz
3. infrasonic tones 18 Hz to 1 Hz
( watch your digital VU meter go up\down once per sec on that 1 Hz signal )

see below for turtle beach DSS2 DXL1 head phone setup, for best listening.
I have NOT tested the mic, I leave the mic muted.
I did use the mic on the PC ( 2.5 mm to 3.5 mm adapter was needed )

I downloaded it to have a listen, sounds ok.

uploaded as DVD mpg2 16:9 with PCM 16 bit 48 khz audio

note:
( Dolby crosses over at 120 Hz , DTS crosses over at 116 Hz )

I made ALL tones in a synthesizer I wrote with c++ .
Special effect sounds were made by summing
trig functions and building the wav files, origianlly at 24 bit 192 khz .

I can hear 30hz on the DXL1's ,
but kinda weak, 32 Hz starts to fade\roll off .
A usefull low end is more like 34 to 33\32 Hz ,
Based on a total hardware system response and my hearing.
plenty good for movies , games and music .
.
DXL1 head phone setup:
use DSS2 surround preset 4 , I was using preset 1,
use DSS2 EQ preset 1 Flat ( default )
set the inline amplifier "game volume" to 50 % , this should prevent over driving the inline amp we do need "head room" for dynamics . Don't go beyound 50% . Never adjust this again .( we don't want to bang a B+ rail and clip the analogue )
ALL 4 LEDs on the DSS2 box should be On , when using
a Dollby 5.1 or Dolby stereo , bit stream .
Because surround preset 1( not using 1 any more, info may still be usefull ) slightly weakens the front center voice, adjust the DSS2 box volume knob to get a comfortable VOICE level from a source .Now when the sound effects\music ramp up , it still shouldn't be too loud, but it should be most dynamic with good front and rear surround ,
I have the USB plugged in the TV USB maintenence port , to power the DSS2 box.

If you really want to hear the 5.1 position audio with these "2 speaker" head phones,
install Dolby Digital Live from creative labs, onto the computer , if you have a
qualifying sound card, then in the "Creative Launcher" select 5.1 speakers
( make sure the 3D sound in Creative Launcher is OFF ) and play
the channel test with the spoken voice, then try another surround preset on the DSS2 box and the 5.1 sound presentation will be noticably different.
The DSS2 surround presets really do work , as well as the Dolby Digital Live
on the computer.

Surround preset 6 is the opposite of preset 1, however with 6 , the rear is slightly
weak . To get a good rear effect you must turn up the DSS2 volume too much
causing the front to become way too loud.
Try surround preset 4 and Eq. preset 1 on the setup above and you should be most pleased .

At first preset 1 looked like the classic 6 spker setup, with the rear almost on axis with the listener, but the FC doesn't place in line with FL and FR . Preset 4
has FL FC FR inline, and does it better. In creative launcer set to match 60* and 120* degrees.

The DXL1 has a decoder box, So the DXL1 package is like a portable
home theater spker system , Take it anywhere and plug into a fiber optic jack.
You always get a sweet spot for audio, no matter where you are , with that 16
foot cord .
.
After some extensive listening to movies, music, and games:
Doom3 5.1 surround, Witcher 2 Dolby Digital stereo ;
voice , vocal , cymbals , sound effects, brass, piano,
all have an open natural sound , not tizzy ,
not bright, no excessive high frequency energy.
Nice low end too.

"The best of Sade" greatest hits CD . I can hear all of her voice
tonalities, breathing etc.. These head phones are revealing, not just a game thing.
I bet she didn't use a wind sock or screen on the mic .

This is the best sound I have heard on the PC , by using ;
creative sound card( regular PCI X-FI xtreme gamer ) with Dolby Digital Live , combined with the DXL1 package . Using Entertainment mode .
ALL 4 LEDs always on , ALL the time , no matter what is playing.

technical bit:
All these head phones are "active" because they
have a "built in" amp. the inline amp. Only esoteric
spker systems had amps. inside their cabinets ,
to achive the best possible servo drive signal .
After all, a spker is an electric motor ,
connected to a diaphram . Not to mention
the DSP( dolby box ) . Some active spker
systems have built Digital Signal Processors too,
So it's ALL digital from the source to the destination,
and then DAC'd at the last possible point.

great sound , comfy( very low ear\side pressure, and 6.4 ounces ) , versatile.

DXL1 is newer , DX12 is older.

DXL1 Excellent choice .
