1,127Kickstarter is another way to buy board games online, funding popular tabletop games like Root, Ankh, Gloomhaven, Rising Sun, Frostpunk, Darkest Dungeon, Zombicide, man the list goes on forever. But backing a game on kickstarter is no normal method of buying a game, and there's plenty of incentives companies love to offer, such as minis and kickstarter exclusives that motivate people to join in on the crowdfunding. Stretch goals, cinematic trailers, and even fear of missing out (FOMO) are great reasons to support the creators of new games. After all, who doesn't wanna get in on the exclusivity and brag about rare board games in their collections? Also minis. My god there's so many cool miniatures that are part of these kickstarter campaigns, like look at Kingdom Death Monster! Also that's a lot of mini painting lol.
Tons of companies, from Leder Games, Cephalofair, Portal Games, and Cool Mini or Not (CMON) have been using this platform to run campaigns that bring in millions of dollars. However Kickstarter does come with its own set of shenanigans and common things you'll run into while backing a game a project. Delays, kickstarter updates, and shipping conundrums absolutely trouble the crowdfunding process. Pour one out to all the homies out there who have to wait past even retail launch to finally receive their copies.
