Sanctuary Guardian Tail Cut + Artorias S23 Let's Play Dark Souls No Shield
1The beginning of the DLC in Dark Souls starts off easy, and gets more and more difficult. Sanctuary Guardian is very easy and doesn't exactly have a lot of health if you've spent the time to get your weapon to +15 and leveled up the appropriate damage stat.
If you're like I used to be and fight him with a +10 weapon then things take a bit longer. Best time to hit the Sanctuary Guardian is after it takes flight and tries to headbutt you. Dodge left, right, and then sprint up to get a hit on the tail.
You can go for a hit after the big wind gust stun, but as you saw it can attack right afterward so it's not the safest. If it goes into a melee frenzy, either block or roll backward repeatedly. That's the best way I've found to dodge it.
Artorias is a more difficult fight for some with his wide sweeping greatsword attacks, and his dark magic. Thankfully Artorias is much more manageable once you get used to his attacks.
If you're melee only, you only have a limited number of opportunities to hit him. Either after dodging a leap attack, after his goop throwing attack, or if you're quick after his crescent moon multiple leap attack you can sneak an attack in.
Otherwise, Artorias is all about practice and precision. Dodging his leap attacks is hard, I still get hit by it so keep at it. Giving up never accomplishes anything after all.
Besides his melee attacks, Artorias still has some tricks up his sleeve. If you seem him back up and roaring with a dark aura around him, he's buffing himself. You have 2 choices, charge in and swing (risky since the end of the buff is an aoe attack), or back off and use arrows to hit his head (I believe it interrupts the channeling on a head shot.)
The buff, I believe ups his damage and he can stack it. After the 2nd stack, you MAY survive one hit after the 2nd buff but likely afterwards another will finish you off.
