The Best Non-Mainline Video Game Duos Or Couples We Love On Valentine's Day
Today is Valentine's Day here in the United States and it got me thinking about some of the best couples or pairings in all of video games. We of course have Mario and Luigi, Sonic and Knuckles, Billy and Jimmy from Double Dragon, and so many other great pairings. But the ones above are obvious, what about some pairings that are less obvious and super awesome? Let's take a closer look.
Rivet and Kit
I normally would have said Ratchet and Clank here, but I've referenced them before and how much I love how those characters interact with each other. Rivet and Kit take that to a different level, and it's a redemption story. Both are flawed characters that have been hurt, ironically kit is the one that hurt rivet, but overall these are fantastic characters with an engaging story.
Yooka and Laylee
If you loved Banjo-Kazooie you will absolutely adore Yooka and Laylee. They were developed by the same wonderful people behind Banjo and Kazooie, and you can feel the love and the homage to the original in these latest spiritual successors. From bear and Bird to lizard and bat These are just sweet and endearing characters and a friendship that you can't help but love.
Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong
I had to educate some people at my work today that Donkey Kong from Donkey Kong Country is not the same as the original. That was cranky Kong, Donkey Kong in these more recent games is actually Donkey Kong Jr. The way Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong support each other throughout their Games show how reliant on each other they truly are. There are areas of games that Donkey cannot reach without Diddy, and vice versa. Best of all you have Donkey Kong being a role model to the next generation of Kong, and setting an example for him to follow.
