May has been an excellent month for horror fans with plenty of releases and one highlight is definitely The Bridge Curse 2 The Extrication. The Bridge Curse 1 was a cult hit and indie darling and I'm so happy to say that the Taiwanese developers have outdone themselves with this second part.
Its pretty much an improvement over the first game in every way. We play as four protagonists who find themselves late at night at a university that seemingly is haunted. It does not take long before spooky things start to happen and we have to hide and solve various puzzles.
The game is definitely not afraid to make jokes and be goofy and that is actually a huge plus. There are plenty of scary and tense moments where you are being chased or need to hide from certain ghosts. But in between there are some longer sections where you are amongst your friends or find yourself in a brighter and more mellow areas. This is great, because it refreshes the player in between the scary bits and makes the game more fun to play in long segments. Many horror games have their entire game play out in dark, dusty, brown hallways or ruins and it becomes often such a slog to get through, but Bridge Curse 2 has a great pace and mix between chill moments, puzzles and scary segments.
I really think other horror developers can look at games like this and Dreadout 2 and implement that in their own horror game as it really makes the entire experience better. So I cannot wait to see what these talented horror developers will come up with in the future!
