The Cynicism of Satoru Gojo || Jujutsu Kaisen Essay Series
This video is the first in a series of essays on Jujutsu Kaisen. I explain a funny paradox in Gojo Satoru's character, which is that he is very cynical about the heroic and moral role of jujutsu sorcery in human society. He hates moralizing about the purpose that sorcerers serve in protecting ordinary human beings from cursed spirits.
The reason why this is paradoxical is because Gojo himself is one of the most righteous and upstanding sorcerers in the show! He generally uses his powers for heroic purposes. And yet he expresses contempt for Geto when Geto claims that sorcerers act as pillars of civilization. But is Gojo like this? Why do his actions seem to contradict his ideology?
That's the question I answer in this video. I cover a number of topics, including: Gojo's relationship to Geto in Hidden Inventory; Gojo's childhood and how that informs his relationship to Yuji Itadori, Riko Amanai, and Yuta Okkotsu; Gojo's influence on the jujutsu clans; the politics of jujutsu sorcerery, and Gojo's relationship to that topic.
