The Darkness | Full Game Walkthrough | No Commentary
I recently let you all know that I received an Elgato Capture card, which made it possible for me to record various console games. That was enough reason for me to dust off my old Xbox 360 and give it a good spin. When I looked at my collection of 360 games, there were a bunch that were console exclusive and are pretty difficult to come by nowadays.
That means they are perfect for archiving so that they won't be lost to time. The Darkness is an awesome and quite ambitious singleplayer game by the creators who nowadays create the Wolfenstein games. In The Darkness we play as Jackie who gets a dark surprise on the day of his 21st birthday. He is struck by tragedy and now is out for revenge on his uncle Paulie. You will need to use all kinds of unique powers that are available due to the Darkness, a mysterious creature that is trying to possess you.
Though the action is okay, the real reason to play this is the atmosphere. The gameworld is beautifully detailed and oozes atmosphere everywhere. From actual tv shows on the various televisions, to random npc's doing various actions or even custom made movie posters on the walls of the subway. There were games that received praise for how detailed they were an entire generation console later and they could stand toe to toe with how detailed The Darkness was. In that sense, The Darkness was way ahead of its time.
There are certain sections where you go back in time and these levels are all very colorless and repetitive and my only real complaint of this game is that these sections outlast their welcome quite a bit.
