The Design of a Smart Prototype Security System for Wildlife | Smart Tech to Save Wildlife
Layman Abstract: Poaching—illegally hunting and killing wild animals—is causing serious harm to Namibia’s environment, wildlife, and economy. In 2022 alone, nearly 90 rhinos were killed in Etosha Game Park, one of Namibia’s most famous wildlife areas. Elephants, rhinos, and pangolins are especially at risk because their body parts are highly valued on the black market.
Even though the Namibian government is trying hard to stop poaching, it continues to be a major problem. This not only threatens animal species but also damages tourism, which is a big part of the country's income.
To help solve this issue, this study introduces a smart, real-time system that can help detect poaching as it happens. Using affordable, widely available technology, this system can monitor wildlife and alert park authorities quickly when poaching activity is detected. The goal is to better protect endangered animals and support conservation efforts in both national parks and private reserves.
🦏 Fighting Poaching in Real-Time: Smart Tech to Save Wildlife 🐘 📡
Namibia is facing a growing crisis—poaching. In 2022 alone, 87 rhinos were killed in the iconic Etosha Game Park, highlighting the urgent need for better protection of endangered species like elephants, rhinos, and pangolins.
In this video, we explore an innovative solution: an intelligent system designed to detect and monitor poaching activities in real-time. Using affordable, off-the-shelf technology, this system aims to support both national parks and private reserves by alerting authorities the moment suspicious activity is detected.
