The fan-made "Sonic RPG" you ꜱʜᴏᴜʟᴅ be playing. [S:NoR]
[This video was made in collaboration with "GamingFrancis", a good friend of mine who's supported me as much as I've supported him. He edited most of the footage in this video & tested out a prototype that HE helped me create, so credit goes straight to him for making this video possible.]
When it comes to the likes of our spiky blue savior, no "Sonic RPG" has ever truly captured what Sonic is primarily known for-- or what made him so memorable in the first place. [And yes, I'm fully aware of the fact that "Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood" is a thing, but I'm not considering it canon for a number of reasons, especially since it managed to completely deface the entirety of Knuckles' Life. (You can tell that I'm holding back against this game. I will expand upon it eventually, but I'd rather not do it now.)]
But anyways... the original "Sonic the Hedgehog" is well-known for being the game that reinvented what made platforming games so great. And it represents that by giving him levels that truly enhance his abilities instead of holding back whenever it came to giving the player to freely explore the game and it's vast land-scape. And "Sonic Adventure" held a candle to that idea by making the worlds have as much variety as possible, all-the-while still entertaining the idea of giving the player new horizons to explore.
But what if there was a "Sonic RPG" that built upon that foundation, all the while paying homage to both the Classic & Adventure ERA of Sonic? [With a bit of "Archie Sonic" in between?] Enter "Sonic: Night of Ruination": A Fan-Made RPG that managed to capture those ideas and utilizes them in a very natural way. Pushing the limitations of "RPG Maker VX Ace" aside, tho... this RPG truly does hold a candle to both ERAs, as the first stage we start off with is "Green Hill Zone", but things are a bit different this time around.
Eggman is searching for a mysterious gemstone called: "The Shadow Emerald" in order to release the evil entity that was sealed from within' it. But this caught the unwanted attention of Tails, who alerts Sonic of his presence on Green Hill Zone. It's now up to Sonic & his friends to stop Eggman from finding the gemstone & releasing the evil entity from within'. (And yes, more of Sonic's Friends show up along the way.) Each stages bombards you with enemies that you'll have to strategically face in order to take them down head-on, and fighting them DOES get quite difficult at first... but once you start grinding your way through the enemies, you'll be able to learn new "special attacks" that'll allow you to strategically plow your way through them without fail. [And defeating them is even more of a reward, as they don't suddenly regenerate long after you defeat them.]
As for levels... each and every one of them are vast & chock-full of life. Enemies tend to get in your way often, but exploring them doesn't take away from the fun. You can grab plenty of rings that stand in your path (and even gain them in battles), and you can also break numerous the numerous capsules that come with some handy items that'll help aid you whenever you encounter either a badnik or a boss. And that's not all... SHOPS are available in this game as well, and you can use all the money you earned to gain more beneficial item that you'll need in order to aid you in battle. [And you'll need them, too. Some of these battles can get a bit intense at times, and the aid of items will increase the chances you have at getting a solid victory.] Backtracking in these levels shouldn't be a hastle, either... you'll find a lot of transportation methods in a few levels if you want to go back to your "checkpoint" (each level either has 1 or 2 of them). And if you want to get there faster, then holding the "SHIFT Button" will practically cut that sheer amount of time in half.
There's so much you can do in this game, and so much to explore... but if you'd like to give this game a try, then I've provided a link down below.
