Here I am grinding away with MONTY, my customized Victor character in "Original Character" mode of Darkstalkers 3 on PS1. You play through a little arcade-style mode to earn points that level up three stats for your character--which just makes the grind easier and easier, like, you get really overpowered : P at least for this level 1 CPU I had it set to ; )--and also unlocks art in the game's "Collection" art gallery, plus two extra Options menus, EX and DX.

Unlocking the EX menu (press R1 on the regular Options menu to open it) was what I really wanted out of this grind; I got however many points are needed for that pretty early on here, and played with the settings there (30'12)--pretty neat stuff, like being able to set Vs. mode to Vs. CPU (that's a clunky way to get Vs. CPU, but Capcom always did it that way... :p), and changing the HUD, music, and game system to Vampire Hunter 2 or Vampire Savior 2 style! Pretty sweet.

I haven't unlocked the DX menu yet; as far as I've read, it has two extra options, one being enabling double jump for all characters, and the other eh I forget. : P

I'm probably not going to unlock it any time soon as I've gone back to the Vampire Darkstalkers Collection on PS2; it has an annoying, irregular blur filter over it, but it does have more fluid animation and faster loading. Still, this PS1 version is really solidly done and packs in some great features!

I meant to show the unlocked art pieces in the "Collection" gallery at the end of the video, but they're in a different resolution than the rest of the game, and my capture device choked on the resolution switch, failing to capture most of my poking through the images, which I didn't notice until afterward. :/
